A small black and white she-cat loped down a hill. The sun shone bright down from the heavens. Dreampaw knew she was a fast runner, but she didn't see Sparrowpaw anywhere! She stopped running at the top os a large hill and looked around, panting with one paw bent at the joint and off the ground. "Sparrowpaw?" She meowed, blue eyes livid with worry.

Sparrow-
Dark tan fur blended in with the moor. Silent, swift paws carried him as he followed the sweet, luring scent of her. He could feel happiness bubbling up from his paws...just to even be next to her...when he wasn't even sure if she felt the same way...what would it be like if... No! Don't get your hopes up...that's just make things worse when... he stopped thinking, not wanting to get depressed.
When her scent suddenly revealed that she was worried he was afraid. What's going on? Then he heard his name and relaxed. She was worried about him. Instinctivly his paws speed up as he raced toward her, hating that look on her face...it pained him.
He blinked and skidded to a halt. He stopped, litterly an inch away from her. He landed in a heap. He burst out laughing, at his stupidy. Then he stopped and looked up at her worried eyes. He stood up and stepped back, shaking the dust off his back. Then he looked at her again. "Sorry..." he mewed, still smiling.

"Silly furball." She meowed, batting Sparrowpaw over the ear with a small white paw. Her sky blue eyes glittered with amusement as she turned, running down the hill and flicking her tail for him to follow. The sun shone warmly on her back, feeling nice on a cool day. The wind whipped at her, plasering her fur to her face. She smiled and jumped into the wind, laughing as she did so.

Sparrow-
A low purr rose up from his chest as the light bounced off her pelt, giving the illusion that she was glowing. Her laugh made him even happier. The sun on his pelt made him stretch up on his toes. He landed back down on his pads and in a flash he was after her.
He leapt through the sunlight, still silent, but less aware of everything. Suddenly a scent jolted him back. His stomach growled at the scent and he instantly fell into a crouch. He eyed the rabbit and slowly made his way forward. He leapt and landed on his face. He watched in frustration as the rabbit bounded away. He cursed himself and darted after it, but it escaped underground. He growled a wordless growl after it.
He glanced up at Dreampaw, hoping she wasn't paying attention. "Maybe I am just a kittypet..." he murmered to himself, feeling dejected. He sighed, looking around. Where was Dreampaw?

Dreampaw stopped running long before Sparrowpaw caught up, and doged into a large bush, her eyes narrowed and her lips drawing into a mockingly militious smile. She waited, a giggle trying to push it's way up to her throat. She fought it back with a strong sense of will, and smiled as Sparrowpaw came into view. Slowly, he same closer and she crouched, muscels bunched...
She lept at him, limbs strong from much jumping, at Sparrowpaw and many other things. Jumping was just a part of this apprentice. She bowled Sparrowpaw as he said, -"Maybe I'm just a kittypet" When the finnaly stopped tumbeling, she growled into his ear, "No. Never say that again," She licked his cheek, "Your much more than a kittypet."

Sparrow-
Sparrow blinked up at her, shocked for two reasons. First of all, she had come out of nowhere. Second of all, she had heard him. He sighed and pushed her off of him. "I'm glad your on my side..." he purred. "Now I'm not so sure about me...but you're nothing like a kittypet."
Even though, he knew deep down that what he had said was true...he still felt cheered by her. He thought on his last statement, no she was nothing like those kittypets he had hung out with. He had never been like them either. "But you know..." he mewed thoughtfully. "Some kittypets can be pretty tough..."
He smiled to himself, knowing he had been through more than most of the warriors. Stupid Twoleg... he thought, instantly feeling defensive. He was even more afraid of Twolegs than the warriors were. He glanced down at a scar on his shoulder then shuddered, and stopped thinking all together.
He distracted himself by watching her, even the way she moved was interesting...to him. He smiled then instantly looked away, not wanting to seem rude. He kept him mouth clamped shut, afraid he would say something else stupid. But, eventually his mouth burst open. "I really am weird aren't I..." he mewed, half to himself.

"Oh yes," She meowed, backing up about two paces. "Your so like a kittypet, yes even smell like twolegs," She meowed, blue eyes glinting. Slowly she bunched her muscels, and crouched low to the ground. In a heartbeat she was standing on the ground, then she was leaping at the tabby apprentice, and with a light thump, she hit him, and pinned him down.
She was standing ontop of him, ears flattened and bearing her teeth in a smile. "And yes, you are weird. " but in a cute sort of way, Dreampaw wanted to say, but for some reason stopped herself from saying it. She smiled widely as the wind blew her fur, flattening her whispers to her face.

Sparrow-
Sparrowpaw stared up at her. So...I am weird...but is that a bad thing? he wondered to himself. He hesitated before grinning a small grin. In a flash he was on top. "Of course...you forest cats have a very...small view of kittypets..." he purred. "I wonder who you all would do living our lives..." He paused, thinking through it. "No...I don't...I would never put someone in that position..."
He slowly stepped back and stared across the moorland. He knew exactly what lay in that direction. His home...and... Mist With a jolt he remembered Mist had lived here...she would have known his leader as well as most of his Clan. He turned to Dreampaw. "Do you know how I came here? Or why for that matter..."

{Dream.paw}
Dreampaw paused, thinking her answer over. "No, I don't think youve ever told me." She jumped off of him, her body moving like silk in the wind. She turned in her leap and panded on four crouched paws, and loked back at the tom. "But if your willing, I might just listen."

Sparrow-
The young tan tom settled down in the grass, his tail curling neatly against his paws. He stared at Dreampaw, calmly as he spoke. "I was once Dust...and young kittypet born into a large family...then a male hu...Twoleg bought me for his daughter. His mate got in a fight with him and the daughter was taken away. The male would drink something called beer..." he struggled over the strange human word. "When humans drink 'beer' something happens and they get all messed up in the head...they get rash and find things to take their rage out on..."
He paused a smiled bitterly. "When they're 'drunk' as they call it...they like to hurt things...they like to see pain...some of them hurt themselves...others their family...and others their 'pet'. This Twoleg got drunk often..." He paused and looked at her. "Are you following me so far?" he asked, wondering how much she could possibly understand.

Dreampaw sat as he talked, listening intently to his words. "Yes, I'm following you." She meowed, blinking her blue orbs at him.

Sparrow-
Sparrowpaw blinked back at her, then he took a deep breath. He looked away and ran his tail down a long scar on his back. Bright blue eyes flashed to green when he looked up.
"Unfortunately...I was the only thing there...he would often take his strange rage out on me..." he paused, not wanting to get into the sickening details...they were already in his head...he didn't want her to have to picture that too. "Every time this happened I would end up outside in the rain...a loner named Mist would help me to her barn and help me...recover..."
He paused thinking. "I didn't have any choice but to go back...so I kept going back...this repeated several times over the next few moons...and then...one time I almost died...if it weren't for Mist..." he trailed off. "As I healed she told me stories of wild cats...cats who had no reason to be afraid. She told me the Legends of the Clans. Even though...I thought they were legends...somehow they gave me hope."
His ears flattened as he thought of what had occured next. "I had been gone for almost half a moon...and he was drunk...after he was done with me I was all but dead...after awhile my body went numb but..." he looked away. "This time...he did not throw me outside...so Mist could not help me...three days later when he finally did let me outside, it was raining. I was so close to death I could hear voices...perhasps it was StarClan...who knows...but I could feel the life leaking out of my body. The next thing I remember was waking up in Mist's barn..."
He pausd again...looking at Dreampaw, wondering what she was thinking...and what she would think when he told her about Mist. She might be too young to know.
"Mist fed me some strange herbs that I had never smelt before...they tasted horrible...but they instantly woke me up. Mist told me that I could not go back that she wouldn't let me...she said she was tired of seeing me hurt...so for a short time I lived the life of a loner with her...but I was always restless...gazing out into the dark forest...not quite content. She saw that and she told me a different story...she told me of Mistpaw...the young WindClan apprentice who hated to fight. She told about one of the Gatherings the apprentice had attended...the one that had almost started a war..."
"The young she-cat padded excitedly down to the clearing, her paws seemed disconnected from her body as she soared after her clan. Her silver tail streaming out behind her she ran down into the clearing. She stopped in her tracks, shocked, as usual by the number of cats. Scents of all four clans came drifting toward her nose. She smiled softly and made her way delicately across the clearing. He was waiting. The young tom's eyes lit up when he saw her and he quickly bounded over to great her. He pressed his dark mussel against her silver one. She purred at him, feeling happier than ever before. "Hello Reedpaw!" A dry cough came from behind them and they turned to see a group of other apprentices. They exchanged annoyed glances before joining them. The Gathering started peacefully, until the ShadowClan leader accused WindClan of stealing prey. Angry yowls echoed off the clearing and soon cats were on their feet, snarling at each other. Reedpaw and Mistpaw stared at each other in horror...they did not want to be forced to pick...not now...not between love and their Clans. In a flash Mistpaw ran, and Reedpaw followed. She begged him to leave with her, but he refused...he didn't want to leave his clan...she ran..." Mist's voice trailed of her blue eyes tainted with sadness.
"You are Mistpaw..." whispered Dust...it was a statement, not a question.
"Go Dust...you are unhappy...I can see that...you belong in a Clan...go...go find WindClan...go live your life..."
Sparrowpaw told a shortened version of Mist's tale...Reedpaw was now Reedtail...and Sparrowpaw didn't want to get him in trouble, so he did not meantion him by name.
He stared at Dreampaw, before saying. "And well...here I am..."

Dreampaw nodded with understandment. She did not know why he might have chose this path, but sometimes you can not always pick your own destiany; sometimes it picks you. She smiled with watery eyes and took a quick leap towards him, thrusting her muzzle under his head and nuzzeling him. "And i'm so glad you did," Meowed the black-and-white she-cat, tail lashing.
